Forgot to check transformer ownership on Eversource account

Spent weeks analyzing a New Hampshire restaurant's Eversource bill looking for errors. Rates looked right, usage reasonable. Then discovered they own their transformer and should be on primary metering. Been overpaying $340/month for 18 months. Always check ownership first!
Ouch. I've seen that with Eversource in CT too. Customer-owned transformers qualify for Rate 117 instead of secondary service. The monthly facilities charge difference alone is significant.
This is why I created a checklist. Item #3: verify transformer ownership and primary vs secondary metering. Simple question that can save thousands.
Had the opposite problem once - client thought they owned transformer but utility records showed utility ownership. Documentation is everything with these disputes.
PSE&G has similar issues. Always request the transformer ownership records upfront. Saves a lot of backtracking later in the audit.
