Marketing strategies that actually work

Six months in San Diego and struggling to find clients. Tried LinkedIn ads and Google AdWords with limited success. What marketing approaches work best for utility auditing?
Direct mail to manufacturing facilities worked well for me in Charlotte. Target businesses with high electric usage - foundries, plastics, food processing.
Chamber of Commerce membership pays off long-term. Speak at their breakfast meetings about utility cost reduction. Positions you as the expert.
Cold calling still works if you do it right. Call during business hours, ask for facility manager, and offer free initial assessment. Success rate about 15%.
LinkedIn works but you have to be strategic. Connect with CFOs and facility managers, share case studies, offer valuable content. Takes months to build pipeline.
Referrals are still the best source. Happy clients tell their business contacts. I get about 60% of new business from referrals now.
Don't overlook trade associations specific to your target industries. Manufacturing groups, restaurant associations, retail chains - they all have newsletters and meetings.
