Client in Augusta got billed $12,300 for "storm restoration work" after the October windstorm. Central Maine Power says they had to replace damaged service equipment. Problem is the client never lost power and their equipment wasn't damaged. CMP won't provide details about what work was supposedly done. How do I challenge this?
CMP dispute - storm damage charges
Similar thing happened here in Anchorage after an ice storm. Chugach Electric billed us for pole replacement that never happened. Demand copies of all work orders, photos of damaged equipment, and crew time sheets. If they can't provide documentation, the charge is bogus.
File a formal dispute and request an itemized breakdown under Maine's utility customer bill of rights. CMP has to justify every charge with actual work performed. No documentation = no valid charge.
Submitted the formal dispute request. CMP came back saying they "may have" billed the wrong account and are investigating. Starting to think this was a random billing error, not actual storm work.
Storm-related charges often get mixed up in utility billing systems. Always demand work order documentation and photos. Utilities should have detailed records of any storm restoration work that justifies special charges.
