Working on a report for Evergy customer in Missouri. Found significant issues with power factor penalties and rate schedule optimization. My draft report is running 47 pages with all the analysis and supporting documentation. Is that excessive? What's typical length for a comprehensive commercial audit?
Report length - how much is too much?
Depends on complexity but 47 pages sounds long. I try to keep main report under 25 pages and put detailed calculations in separate appendices. Executives won't read past page 15 anyway.
I structure mine in sections: 5-page executive summary, 10-15 page findings and recommendations, then appendices with all the detailed analysis. Let readers choose their level of detail.
Agree with Tim. I also put a "quick reference" page at the front with just the dollar amounts and action items. Some clients bookmark that page and never read the rest.
