Clients who want to implement findings themselves vs. hiring us

Had an interesting situation with a Daytona Beach resort on FPL. Found about $35,000 in annual savings through rate schedule change and demand management. Client loves the findings but wants to handle implementation internally. Do you structure reports differently when you know the client won't hire you for follow-up?
I make the implementation section more detailed in those cases. Step-by-step instructions, exact forms to file, timelines, who to contact at utility. Essentially a how-to guide instead of just recommendations.
Same here. I also include potential pitfalls and what to watch for. Like if a rate change requires demand meter upgrades or has minimum term commitments. Better they succeed than mess it up and blame your analysis.
Good points. I also put in a section on "verification steps" so they can confirm the changes were implemented correctly. Demand billing especially can be tricky for non-experts.
Do you offer any kind of consultation rate for questions during their implementation? Sometimes clients start the process then realize they need expert help.
I include a "90-day implementation support" option in my proposals now. Hourly rate for phone consultation if they hit snags. About 30% take it and it usually pays for 3-4 hours of my time.
That's smart Iris. I should start offering that. Had a client mess up a Georgia Power rate change last year because they didn't understand the demand minimum requirements.
The key is making your reports complete enough that a competent facilities manager can execute the recommendations. Include utility form numbers, contact departments, and common implementation mistakes. Your reputation depends on successful outcomes regardless of who implements.
