Evergy meter reader marked wrong address

This is embarrassing. Topeka strip mall on Evergy. Meter reader was reading the wrong meter for 8 months - building next door that was vacant. My client was getting estimates while the vacant building got actual reads. Evergy caught it during a routine audit. Client owes $11,000 in catch-up billing.
SCE had a similar mix-up in Riverside. Two adjacent meters got swapped in their system. Took 6 months to catch. Both customers had to true-up but SCE waived late fees and interest.
Vectren Indiana had meter transposition issues. Their settlement offered payment plans and credits for over-estimates to the other customer. Did Evergy offer any concessions?
Evergy offered 18-month payment plan with no interest. They admitted their error but say the customer still used the electricity. Hard to argue with that logic.
Meter transposition errors are utility mistakes but customers are still liable for actual usage. Document any service interruptions or reduced operations during the estimation period to challenge inflated catch-ups.
