Southern California Edison just completely restructured their Schedule TOU-GS-3 for medium commercial customers. The new rate has 5 different TOU periods instead of 3, plus seasonal variations. Has anyone else dealt with this change? My client's bills went up 40%.
SCE California - Schedule TOU-GS-3 rate structure completely changed
Carol - SCE filed the new rate structure with the CPUC in March. It's designed to better reflect actual grid costs but yeah, some customers are seeing big increases. Check if your client qualifies for any of the alternative schedules.
We're seeing this across California. PG&E and SDG&E are implementing similar changes. The key is understanding the new "super off-peak" period from 8am-3pm when rates are actually lower than before.
Bob - good point about super off-peak. We're looking at shifting some manufacturing processes to those hours. The rate differential is huge - $0.12/kWh vs $0.45/kWh during evening peak.
Has anyone successfully gotten a client grandfathered on the old rate structure? I heard there might be options for existing customers.
Major rate restructuring like this is happening nationwide as utilities modernize their pricing. The key is helping clients understand their new options and adapt their operations accordingly. Fixed-rate nostalgia won't pay the bills.
