Virginia government client paying sales tax to Dominion Energy

Working with county government facility in Norfolk. Dominion Energy Virginia has been charging sales tax on their electric bills. Virginia Code 58.1-609.10 exempts sales to government entities. Filed Form ST-12 but getting pushback from utility billing dept. They want additional documentation beyond the exemption certificate.

Had similar issue with Dominion last year. They wanted copy of government charter or incorporation docs plus the ST-12. Once provided, they processed refund going back 36 months. Recovery was $8,900.

Thanks Patricia. Submitted the additional docs and got approval. $12,400 refund processed. Amazing how much these add up over time.
