Client in Denver has both Xcel Energy electric and Xcel Energy gas. Since it's the same company can I put both account numbers on one LOA or do the electric and gas divisions need separate authorizations?
Including natural gas accounts on the same LOA as electric
Same utility, one LOA is fine. Just list both account numbers clearly. Xcel is a combined utility so they handle electric and gas under one billing system. Where it gets tricky is when the electric and gas are different companies — like in parts of Ohio where you might have AEP for electric and Columbia Gas for gas. Those need separate LOAs to separate companies. Always check whether the utility is combined or separate before assuming one LOA covers everything.
Art is correct. Combined utilities like Xcel, NSTAR, and most municipals handle all services under one roof. Separate LOAs for separate companies. When in doubt check the bills — if the electric and gas invoices come from the same entity with the same customer service number, one LOA covers both. If they're from different companies, you need separate authorizations.
