Fuel adjustment clause — how to verify the rate matches the filing

I want to start verifying fuel adjustment clause rates against the actual PUC filings but I'm not sure how. The FAC changes monthly on Georgia Power. Where do I find the monthly rate and how do I match it to the bill?
Georgia Power files the monthly FAC rate with the Georgia PSC. You can find the filings on the PSC docket search — look for the fuel cost recovery docket. The filing shows the per-kWh FAC rate for each customer class for that month. Compare that filed rate to the FAC line item on your client's bill. If they don't match, you have an error. The most common mismatch is when the billing system applies the wrong month's rate — for example, using September's FAC rate on an October billing period.
Mike described the process perfectly. I'd add that the FAC verification is worth doing on at least a sample basis — check 3-4 months per client rather than all 36. If the FAC rate matches on those months, it's likely correct throughout. If you find a mismatch, then check every month. The bigger audit opportunity with fuel adjustments is making sure the correct customer class rate is being applied — as Jim found with the rider error in the previous thread, the FAC rate varies by customer class and the wrong class rate can be a significant overcharge.
Checked 4 months of FAC against the PSC filings. All matched correctly for the customer class. Good to have that verified. Adding this as a periodic check going forward.
