Three months in, zero clients — what am I doing wrong?

I got my CUBA certification three months ago. I've made about 50 cold calls, sent 30 emails, been to two networking events, and posted on LinkedIn twice a week. Zero clients. Not even a meeting. Starting to wonder if this actually works.
Hang in there — the market is absolutely not saturated. There are millions of commercial utility accounts and a tiny number of auditors. Your problem is approach, not market. Fifty cold calls in three months is way too low volume. You should be doing 15-20 calls per day. And target specific industries — churches, restaurants, small manufacturers, property management companies — not random businesses.
Three months feels like forever when you're not seeing results but it's actually early. Most auditors I know didn't close their first client until month 4-6. Also look at the quality of your outreach. Are you leading with value or with your credentials? Nobody cares that you're CUBA certified. They care that you can save them money.
Here's what I'd do this week. Stop cold calling and go talk to three CPAs, three commercial insurance agents, and three commercial real estate agents. These people already have relationships with commercial property owners. Offer them a referral fee. One good referral partner will generate more business than 500 cold calls. I built my entire practice on referral relationships.
Don't give up at three months. The business model works — thousands of auditors are making a good living doing this. My recommendations: First, audit someone you know for free to get your first case study. You cannot sell this service without a concrete example. Second, build referral relationships as Phil described. Third, increase your outreach volume dramatically — 10-15 prospects per week minimum. Fourth, be patient but be active. The auditors who fail are the ones who stop calling, not the ones who haven't closed a deal yet.
This is exactly the kick I needed. Going to spend this week meeting referral partners instead of cold calling. And I'm auditing my church's bills this weekend to get my first case study. Thank you all.
You got this. Everyone in this forum started at zero. Come back and tell us about your first find — we love those stories.
I was in the exact same spot 18 months ago. Now I have 12 active clients. It clicks once you get that first case study. Rooting for you.
