Rob from Columbus. Found a five-year demand billing issue that originated with the HVAC installation. The contractor set the demand threshold on the building automation system to a level intended for a different building, far higher than this facility needed. The result was unnecessary demand peaks every summer for five years. Client overpaid $24,000. But the utility billed correctly based on actual metered demand. How do I handle this?

HVAC contractor misconfigured demand settings — five-year overpayment
Walt. This is an operational error not a billing error. The utility billed what was measured. There is no retroactive recovery from the utility.
That is what I expected. The client was hoping I could recover the money.
Mike D. The value you provided is still real. Identifying the problem saves them $4,800 per year going forward. Present it that way.
Terry. There might also be a claim against the HVAC contractor for professional negligence. Not your fight but worth flagging to the client.
