Terms of Service

These Terms govern your use of aauba.org, the CUBA© training program, the certification examinations, and the member forum operated by American Association of Utility Bill Auditors, LLC ("AAUBA," "we," "us"). By creating an account, enrolling, or using the site, you agree to these Terms.

Effective date: August 21, 2026

1. What We Provide

AAUBA offers a self-paced online training program in commercial utility bill auditing, consisting of thirteen lessons with accompanying quizzes, a practical workbook examination based on a simulated audit case, and a written certification examination. Members who complete the requirements are awarded the Certified Utility Bill Auditor (CUBA©) designation. We also operate a member forum and offer a separate paid Practitioner's Resources subscription.

The program is educational. It teaches a professional methodology. It is not a job placement service, a franchise, a business opportunity, or an agreement to provide you with clients or work.

2. Eligibility and Accounts

2.1 Age

You must be at least 18 years old to enroll or create an account.

2.2 Accurate Information

You agree to provide accurate registration information and to keep it current. Certificates and credential verifications are issued in the name on your account.

2.3 One Account, One Person

Accounts are individual and non-transferable. You may not share your login credentials, let another person take a quiz or examination on your behalf, or use one enrollment to train multiple people. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account and must notify us promptly of any unauthorized use.

3. Enrollment, Fees, and Payment

Tuition for the CUBA© training program is $179 (U.S. dollars), payable in full at enrollment. Payment is processed by PayPal; we never receive or store your payment card details.

After payment clears, we issue a registration code to the email address associated with your payment. That code is single-use and activates one account. If you do not receive your code within one business day of payment, email info@aauba.org with your PayPal transaction ID and we will issue it manually.

Fees may change, but a price change never affects an enrollment already paid for.

4. Refund Policy

We offer a 14-day refund window on the training program. To request a refund, email info@aauba.org within 14 days of your payment. Approved refunds are issued to the original payment method within ten business days.

A refund request will be honored provided that, at the time of the request, you have opened no more than three lessons and have not attempted the practical workbook examination or the certification examination. Opening a lesson means accessing its content page, whether or not you completed it. Because the course materials are delivered immediately and in full upon activation, tuition is non-refundable after the 14-day window closes or after a fourth lesson is opened, whichever occurs first.

The 14-day window runs from the date of payment, not from the date you activate your registration code. If you enroll and do not begin within that period, the window still closes.

Refunds are not available for the Practitioner's Resources subscription after the current billing period has begun, but you may cancel at any time to prevent future charges.

If your registration code was never delivered and you have not accessed any course material, you are entitled to a full refund regardless of elapsed time.

5. No Guarantee of Earnings or Results

AAUBA makes no representation, promise, or guarantee regarding income, client acquisition, refund recoveries, or business results you may achieve after completing the program.

Case results, recovery figures, and examples described in our training materials, marketing, or member forum reflect specific engagements under specific tariffs and circumstances. They are illustrations of what the methodology can find. They are not typical, not promised, and not predictive of your results. Earnings in this field depend on your effort, your market, your business development, the accounts you review, and factors outside anyone's control.

Nothing in the program or in any AAUBA communication should be understood as a guarantee that you will earn any particular amount or recover any particular sum for a client.

6. Certification

6.1 Requirements

The CUBA© designation is awarded to members who complete all thirteen lessons and their quizzes, pass the practical workbook examination at or above the published threshold, and pass the written certification examination at or above the published threshold. We may adjust curriculum and examination content as the field changes.

6.2 What the Designation Is

CUBA© is a private professional designation conferred by AAUBA. It is not a government license, a state certification, an accounting or engineering credential, or a legal qualification. It does not authorize you to practice law, provide legal advice, represent a client before a regulatory commission where representation is restricted, or perform any activity for which your jurisdiction requires a license you do not hold. You are responsible for determining and meeting the licensing, registration, and business requirements that apply to you.

6.3 Examination Integrity

You may not copy, record, reproduce, or distribute examination questions or answers, use another person's work as your own, or obtain assistance during an examination. Violations void the attempt and may result in revocation of certification.

6.4 Suspension and Revocation

Certification is subject to the CUBA© Code of Professional Conduct. We may suspend or revoke the designation for violations of that Code, for examination misconduct, or for misrepresenting your credential. Certificants have the right to appeal through the process described in the Code.

6.5 Use of the Mark

While your certification is active and in good standing, you may describe yourself as a Certified Utility Bill Auditor and use the CUBA© designation after your name. You may not use the mark if your certification has lapsed, been suspended, or been revoked, and you may not use it to imply AAUBA endorsement of your firm, your work product, or any specific audit finding.

7. Course Materials and Intellectual Property

All lessons, workbooks, examination content, case studies, templates, and forum materials are the property of AAUBA and are protected by copyright. Your enrollment grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the materials for your own professional development and in the course of your own audit practice.

You may not resell, republish, share, upload to file-sharing or AI training services, or otherwise distribute the materials; use them to build or teach a competing training program; or remove any copyright or attribution notice. You may use the audit methodology and worksheet formats in your own client work — that is what they are for — but you may not distribute the instructional materials themselves.

8. Member Forum and Acceptable Use

The forum exists for professional discussion among members. When posting, you agree not to:

  • Post client-identifying information, account numbers, or confidential documents without the client's authorization
  • Harass, threaten, or defame other members, utilities, or their employees
  • Advertise unrelated products or services, post spam, or recruit members to other programs
  • Post examination content, answer keys, or other material that undermines certification integrity
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to extract site content or member information
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any account, server, or database, or to test, probe, or circumvent site security
  • Upload malicious code or use the site to distribute it

You retain ownership of what you post, and you grant AAUBA a non-exclusive license to display, store, and archive it within the forum. We may remove content or suspend accounts for violations of this section.

9. Educational Content Is Not Professional Advice

The training program describes tariffs, rate structures, tax treatments, regulatory procedures, and audit methodology as of the time the material was written. Tariffs and regulations change constantly and vary by utility and jurisdiction. Nothing in the program constitutes legal, tax, accounting, or engineering advice, and no attorney-client or other professional relationship is created by your enrollment.

You are solely responsible for the work you perform for your own clients, including verifying current tariff language, confirming applicable law, and the accuracy of any finding, refund claim, or representation you make. AAUBA is not a party to your client engagements and bears no responsibility for their outcome.

10. Availability and Changes

We aim to keep the site available continuously but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the site or program, and we may update course content, examination content, and these Terms. If we materially change these Terms, we will post the revised version with a new effective date and notify active members by email. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.

11. Disclaimer of Warranties

The site, the program, and all materials are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be error-free or that content will be current or complete.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, AAUBA and its officers, employees, and contractors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost business, lost data, or lost client engagements, arising from your use of the site or the program, even if advised of the possibility.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to these Terms, the site, or the program will not exceed the amount you actually paid to AAUBA in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold AAUBA harmless from claims, damages, and reasonable expenses arising from your violation of these Terms, your misuse of course materials, your misrepresentation of your credential, or the audit work you perform for your own clients.

14. Termination

You may close your account at any time by emailing us. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these Terms, the Code of Professional Conduct, examination misconduct, non-payment, or fraudulent chargebacks. Sections 5, 7, 9, 11, 12, and 13 survive termination.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Missouri, the state in which AAUBA is organized, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Before filing any claim, you agree to contact us at info@aauba.org and attempt in good faith to resolve the dispute informally for at least 30 days. Any claim not resolved informally will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Missouri, and both parties consent to that jurisdiction.

16. General

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the CUBA© Code of Professional Conduct, are the entire agreement between you and AAUBA regarding the site and the program. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. You may not assign your rights under these Terms; we may assign ours in connection with a merger or acquisition.
